So we decided to go on a little canoe adventure. It was initially going to be just to two of us - Robert and I - but Charlie got to go, too. Robert was fiercely resistant to the idea of Charlie going. His reasons were #1: Charlie would be whining all the way there; #2: Charlie would be whining relentlessly in the canoe; #3: Charlie can't swim; and #4: Charlie would just be an overall pain in the A$$.
But, Charlie hardly whined on the way there, hardly whined in the canoe, he DID know how to swim and he wasn't as much of a pain in the butt as we had expected. He was a good boy!
Beautiful blue skies with just the right amount of happy clouds :)
Charlie proving to Robert that he CAN swim! Little dogs with short stumpy legs can swim!!
Resting in the bit of tiny shade in the canoe. He doesn't even notice the bag of treats he's sitting on.
We finished canoeing in about 3 hours and then headed over to Rimrock Overlook which was only about 20 minutes from where we were.
The view was beautiful!
Even Charlie thought so.
We then headed down a very narrow staircase to the area below.
Here Robert is resting in front of a "crevasse" or a huge crack in the rocks. The air coming out of this crack was like "air conditioning" - so cold and refreshing! We spent a few minutes in front of it as the day was so hot.
We didn't hike the Rimrock Overlook Trail because we were a little tired, it was getting late and the sun was setting, and the day was so hot. We were ready to go home and take a shower! So here we were back at the stars to go up.
On the drive back home, we stopped for some ice-cream and Charlie met another dachshund.
We'll be back at Rimrock Trail to do some hiking later on - maybe once the weather gets a bit cooler. It turned out to be a really great day for us and I'm glad we brought Charlie along with us.
